10 Foolproof Ways to Fight Aging Skin

It’s a fact: Healthy skin is always in. Your skin is the largest (and most visible!) organism in your body, so make sure you treat it with the respect it deserves. After all, when your skin looks its best, you feel your best. Use these 10 tips to reverse the effects of aging on your skin (without using a time machine).

Tip 1: Always wear sunscreen.

Maybe your mother repeated this mantra to you as a child, or maybe you learned the hard way after several bad burns. Either way, this is necessary if you want to get younger, healthier skin.

Tip 2: Drink up.

Water, that is. Staying hydrated has lots of perks—especially when it comes to skincare. Drinking lots of water (and less caffeine) can help hide the appearance of pesky wrinkles.

Tip 3: Sleep on it.

Turns out beauty rest isn’t a myth. Your skin needs time to rejuvenate overnight. So the more rest you get, the better. Sweet dreams.

Tip 4: Watch your weight.

Maintaining a consistent, healthy weight is great for your heart and overall cardiovascular health. But did you know it’s also great for your skin? When your weight fluctuates dramatically, your skin stretches, too.

Tip 5: Stop smoking.

This one is a no-brainer. Cigarettes (both the traditional and vapor-producing variety) are terrible for your health—and the effects it has on your skin are a testament to how bad they are for you from the inside out.

Tip 6: Rock the hats.

This one goes hand-in-hand with wearing sunscreen. In addition to slathering your skin with some good old-fashioned SPF, throw on a hat for extra protection. Because you can never do too much.

Tip 8: Skip the open bar.

Bad news: that martini isn’t doing your skin any favors. Excessive alcohol consumption (that’s more than one drink a day for women and more than two drinks a day for men) can zap your body of vital nutrients—and this becomes very evident in the way your skin looks.

Tip 9: Load up on antioxidants.

Fruits and veggies are full of vitamins and antioxidants that promote healthier skin (and better health overall). To keep your skin looking its best, try to eat five to seven servings of fruits and vegetables every day. If making that happen is a bit of a struggle, try taking vitamins. Vitamins C, E and A are great for skin.

Tip 10: Use an anti-aging cream.

So you’re wearing your hats and sunscreen, taking your vitamins and leading an overall healthy life...now what? Three words: anti-aging cream. There are tons of options out there, so experiment with different ones to see which works the best with your skin’s unique chemistry.
